Here's To The USA

While I usually keep my politics private, there was enough national consternation on the candidate choices of the time to jot down some thoughts.  In my opinion, the choices were not good, and given that one of those two were going to win, the only way to survive it was and is to persevere, regardless of the outcome.

The rally cry of this song was for Americans to survive and weather the storm, regardless of the outcome of the election, and to ‘overcome’ the results by remaining true to America. The hook line was written first, intended to be as simple and straightforward as possible. The verses question how we found ourselves in that predicament, in terms of the choices offered.

Musically speaking, there are numerous keyboard lines weaving in and out of the song, starting with the opening line that was inspired by Stevie Nicks’ STAND BACK.  I always found that line a bit haunting.  Other synth lines paint the rest of the picture, to include that seriously ‘80’s’ bass sound that appears 2 times out of nowhere.

Thanks to Jody Boyd (Red Amp Studio) for his great contribution musically (rhythm guitars) and his engineering expertise and thanks to John McNeil ( lead guitar solo).
