Who's Gonna Be Your Man

The inspiration song goes back to my high school roots and is somewhat inspired by my old childhood friend, Ralph. Throughout middle school and high school, Ralph and I often wondered how a particularly attractive girl and classmate of ours could go through school without ever being seen with a guy.  We discussed it often way back then, and we were simply bewildered by the situation.  We even concluded that perhaps she was dating some elite college guy, rock star, or business mogul.   Once we determined that was not the case, we pretty much figured she was simply unapproachable, and certainly not approachable by either of us knuckleheads. But,  we simply wanted to know who….if anybody….she was seeing.  We never found out.

Musically, the guitar riff came to me one night when I was bound and determined to create something that came within a mile of sounding like a Doobie Brothers guitar hook line.   Throw in a Boston-esque organ, plus a Santana conga, a Phil Collins horn riff, and you have…….Who’s Gonna Be Your Man.  There, you know how old I am now.

Players on the song are:

Jody Boyd: Drums, guitars, and lead engineer

Audie Stanley: Bass

Allen Brown: Trumpet

Rich Moncure: Vocals, keyboards, trombone and the cowbell that Jody didn’t want to have on the song. It is buried deep in the 2nd verse, as he is…the engineer.
